Mona Shindy

Capitan Mona Shindy has over 26-year-career in the Royal Australian Navy, pioneering organisational change as a weapons engineer/cultural advisor.

She left Egypt at the age of three with her family, to Australia, where her and her family relocated and attended school.

The engineer, Mona Shindy of Egyptian origin, obtained a bachelor's degree in weapons engineering at the age of 23, and rose to several positions and reached the highest levels in the Royal Australian Navy.

Although Mona was jugling a demanding career and three children, she is a model of a strong woman who rose in Australian positions until she reached the leadership of the Royal Australian Navy.

Captain Shindy, heads up the guided missile frigate system program office and is also an advisor on Islamic Cultural Affairs.

“Mona’s ability to unify and inspire as a leader in a traditionally male-dominated industry has created lasting business improvement and made way for real change in the navy,” said Telstra’s Business Women’s Awards ambassador and chief operations officer, Kate McKenzie.
